The following instructions describe how to set up the VPN Connection with Cisco AnyConnect on OSX Operating Systems. Note: We highly recommend, to use Cisco AnyConnect on OSX for VPN Connections to ETH Network. Note: The Documentation was created with OSX 10.15.6 Catalin. Devices in the ETH network are subject to the Use Policy for Information and Communications Technology at ETH Zurich (BOT) and must have all security patches and an up-to-date virus scanner installed.
VPN
A VPN connection is only necessary if access to resources and services is required which can ONLY be accessed within the ETH network. Most applications are normally accessible via the Internet.

Instructions for the installation and configuration of the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client:
For managed computers at ETH Zurich, special VPN settings may apply. Please contact your IT support group if you have any questions. In order to continue to receive all updates and security patches, it is recommended to connect to the ETH network via VPN at least every 2-3 days for about two hours.

Network drive (NAS)
Access to the NAS requires an active VPN connection (see above). The paths are different for each department, institute or group. If the paths are not known, they can be obtained from the respective ISG: IT Support Groups in the departments
- Go to “Finder'
- Go to the 'Finder' menu select 'Go' and select 'Connect to Server.' (or CMD+K)
- Enter the server address and click 'Connect'
- Enter your ETH user name and ETH password for email (Active Directory) and click on 'Connect'
- Open File Explorer from the taskbar or the Start menu, or press the Windows logo key + E.
- Select This PC from the left pane. Then, on the Computer tab, select Map network drive.
- In the 'Drive' list, select a drive letter. (Any available letter will do.)
In the 'Folder' box, type the corresponding server address
Check the box 'Connect using different credentials'
Select 'Finish' Enter your ETH user name ('d' in front of it E.g. dhansmuster) and ETH password for email (Active Directory) and click on 'OK'
Login with another user
Click on 'More choices' and then on 'Use a different account'
