2. Buddha's Tooth

A 16th century building known as the Shariden contains a tooth that's said to have belonged to Buddha. The building is a sublime example of temple architecture that's designated as a national treasure. It can only be viewed from a distance most of the time.

3. Art

The temple's large main hall and spacious grounds are filled with fine sculpture.

4. Angry Guy

A fairly insignificant little bosatsu statue that's popular with visitors because he's so angry. Only the brave put yen on his head.

9. Temple Restaurant

Engakuji's teahouse serves snacks such as dango, tea and amazake (sweet sake).
